start your new year on a lighter note

December and January are always funfilled (and mostly sunfilled) days for South Africans - whether you frolick in the waves or enjoy a glass of red wine against the backdrop of Table Mountain at one of the Camps Bay cafes. Across the road you can see the activity on the beach with young and old bodies getting rid of the last bit of stress of 2008 eagerly anticipating the dawn of the new year. You can smell the sea and hear the seagulls with the roar of the sea in the background.

So what about another one (wine, beer, pizza etc)? So we pump our bodies with fuel that we do not need now. This is a recipe to gain weight!

So what about some eating tips for the holiday?

If you do (over)indulge, forgive yourself, but tomorrow - cut back a little bit. Don't go for the extra portion, stay away from bread (o-blood group people) and rather go for a piece of meat. Walk or run with a loved one or family member - play tennis, squash or golf or do some activity.

Talking about blood groups - it is handy to know what blood group ( http://www.targetwoman.com/articles/blood-group-diet.html ) you are and how this would impact on your eating habits - most of us don't know that. Early in the year I found out that yoghurt is not good for me and I lost about 10 kg quickly when I cut that out.

And yes, it is possible to loose weight over december - january. In the period October to end December 1997 I lost 5 kg (quite proud about this) and then I continued to loose another 22 kilogram in 1998. That was unbelievable. At the moment I am again down to a level 24 kg less than in 1997. If you want to read my story and find out what supplements helped (helps) me, please go here ...http://www.hansielouw.blogspot.com/

So to summarize: cut back the next day; exercise; eat according to your blood group or find a supplement that will do the trick for you - it will just make it so much easier.
(the picture above was taken at Port Alfred in July 2008 just after the start of the Washie, a gruelling 160km "race" where the time limit is 26 hours and you run through one night and another day - somebody may think this is 'exercise'!)
